ICROFS was sponsor and collaborator of the conference

In addition to being sponsor and collaborator of the 1st African Organic Conference, ICROFS contributed to the scientific programme. With the support of Danish Development Research Network (DDRN), ICROFS, in collaboration with University of Aarhus and Organic Denmark, organised a workshop on the fourth conference day with focus on organic agriculture and food security.

Four sub-workshop discussions

The theme and discussions of the sub-workshop co-organised by ICROFS was based on the findings of a recent UNEP/UNCTAD report ‘Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa’.

The 4 parallel workshop group discussions that followed the presentations focussed on:

  • Group 1: How to address the need for development of agro-ecological methods for improved food security, stability and access for smallholder farmers
  • Group 2: How to address capacity building in organic agriculture at different levels
  • Group 3: How to strengthen community level development through organic agriculture
  • Group 4: How to support chain development and market access
